How did they try to stand out in a crowded market? Did it work?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s break it down!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>1. Stress<\/h3>\n<p>Stress. It\u2019s normal, and everyone is familiar with the holiday variety. What should you get your mother-in-law? How are you going to fit 27 people at your dining room table for dinner? Where can you find the season\u2019s hottest toy for little Chelsea? What can you get your grandpa, the man who has everything? Oh, and how are you going to pay for all of this?!<\/p>\n<p>It may be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gFtb3EtjEic\">hap-happiest season<\/a> of all. But, it doesn\u2019t come without a little (or a lot) of extra stress for most people.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Audi Christmas commercial 2017\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dx4zVazH0Ao?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audi exploits this fact of life in its very funny 2017 holiday ad. In the commercial, two ordinary men driving Audis pull into the parking lot of their local mall. Everything is normal\u2026 until\u00a0an all-out competition ignites for a parking spot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The driving scenes (going fast, making quick stops, turning tight corners, etc.) are the brand\u2019s opportunity to show off\u00a0the car&#8217;s abilities. Even though most drivers are much more cautious in tight quarters, it sure looks like fun.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are more subtle cues to let you know that these cars are exceptional. When the drivers take a leap of faith of the ramp to a nearly vacant lot,\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the brand shows us that Audi is separate from the rest (of the cars) and its drivers end up on top (of the parking deck).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Why it Works<\/h4>\n<p>Stress just might be the most relatable emotion associated with the holidays. Whether it&#8217;s end-of-year reporting, the holiday party circuit, or last minute gift shopping, nearly everyone experiences some level of stress during the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>By tapping into\u00a0this common human experience, Audi prompts\u00a0viewers to picture themselves as the driver behind the wheel. After all, wouldn&#8217;t your holiday errands be a lot more fun if you could whip around the turns like that?<\/p>\n<h3>2. Joy<\/h3>\n<p>Quick! What three-letter word do you think of when you think of the holidays? J-O-Y!<\/p>\n<p>In these humorous spots, Lexus\u00a0showcases the childlike joy and wonderment the holidays evoke. Yes, they are silly. But, they are also charming.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FhBov5ESSLQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Part of the fun of the holidays is feeling like a kid again. With all the parties and gifts, it&#8217;s hard not to get excited around this time of year.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Why it Works<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By\u00a0featuring a child, the ad captures the viewer\u2019s attention because we\u2019re wondering, \u201cWhy is this cute little boy, with amazing dance moves, so excited about this car?\u201d When a woman interrupts him to ask, \u201cHappy?\u201d we\u00a0realize we just witnessed his inner child celebrating the gift. Ah, ok &#8211; that makes more sense! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most viewers also\u00a0have an inner child that would jump for joy\u00a0if offered such a gift. The car maker went with this particular angle on the holidays not once or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JT616hVBfsg\">twice<\/a>,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20171201155737\/https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QVG0LlY2f1k\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">three<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> times! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clearly, they believe that no matter their demographic, their potential customer has an inner child just as excited about the prospect of a brand new Lexus for Christmas as those in their ads.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>3. Comfort<\/h3>\n<p>Compared to our last two examples, Toyota\u2019s 2017 holiday ad is much more of a tearjerker. In just 30 seconds, the ad manages to tell an emotional story of family and friends welcoming a soldier home from deployment for the holidays.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Toyota &#039;Right Light&#039; by Pete Riski\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BjBK1viJYwU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4>Why it Works<\/h4>\n<p>Further differentiating itself from the other holiday car commercials, Toyota keeps the focus on the people in the ad, rather than the features of its cars.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This type of heartwarming message is a tried and true approach in holiday advertising, and Toyota does a great job of it with this ad.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>4. Nostalgia<\/h3>\n<p>What are the holidays for if not for feeling nostalgic and sentimental?
