Overview of Video Privacy Settings

SproutVideo offers several different privacy options for videos and live streams hosted on our platform. The following is an overview of the different options, and how they impact the availability of your videos and live streams for video landing pages, websites, or embeds.

NOTE: All videos and live streams will be viewable and accessible to the accountholder and all team members when logged into a SproutVideo account regardless of the video privacy settings being used.

Private Videos and Live Streams

All videos and live streams are set to private by default. A private video is only accessible and playable by viewers when it is embedded on another website. Private videos and live streams are not accessible through SproutVideo landing pages or video websites.

If you want to share a private video or live stream with a viewer, you will need to change its privacy settings, or embed it on a website first.

Public Videos and Live Streams

Public videos and live streams are accessible on SproutVideo landing pages and video websites, as well as any webpage where they are embedded. SproutVideo does not have a video discovery engine, so you still need to send someone the unique URL for your video or live stream landing page, your video website, or the URL where it is embedded to share it.

Public videos can be indexed by Google and other search engines. They can be discovered online if someone searches for a search term related to your video. Learn more about optimizing your videos for SEO.

Password Protection

If your video or live stream is password protected, viewers will need to enter the password before they will be able to view it. Password protected videos and live streams will be accessible through SproutVideo landing pages and video websites, as well as anywhere they are embedded.

The password will always be required on SproutVideo landing pages or websites, and you have the option to require the password for embedded videos and live streams as well.

Login Protection

Login protected videos and live streams are accessible through SproutVideo landing pages and video websites, as well as anywhere they are embedded.

If you are sharing your login protected videos or live streams using a SproutVideo landing page or video website, your viewers will have to enter their credentials into a form prior to being able to watch, and the player will not load until after they login.

If you are embedding a login protected video or live stream on a website, the player will display a login form. The poster frame will not load and the video or stream will not be playable until after a viewer enters their credentials.

Single Sign-On

Single Sign-On (SSO) is available only for SproutVideo’s brandable video websites. It will not affect videos or live streams hosted on our platform that are embedded on websites hosted by a third party, like WordPress or Squarespace.

When SSO is enabled, a viewer will only be able to load your video website and watch one of your videos or streams if they are authenticated by your company’s Identify Provider.

SproutVideo uses SAML 2.0 as the basis for our SSO privacy feature.

Allowed Domains

Domain whitelisting is a quick and easy way to prevent your embed codes from loading anywhere other than websites or webpages you specify. It affects videos and live streams shared on your video website, landing pages, and wherever they are embedded. If someone tries to share your embed code on a website that is not whitelisted, it simply will not load.

You can specify allowed domains account-wide, or for individual videos or live streams.

Geo Whitelist

A geo whitelist allows you to designate the specific countries or regions where your videos and live streams can be played. Once enabled, your videos and streams will not load or play in any countries or regions that are not included in your whitelist.

You can set a geo whitelist account-wide, or for individual videos and streams.

Allowed IP Addresses

Allowed IP addresses affects videos and live streams on your SproutVideo website and landing pages, playlists, and embeds.

When enabled, only viewers from an approved IP address will be able to load your video website and watch your videos or live streams. Anyone connecting from an IP address that is not included in your “allowed” list will not be able to load your videos or live streams, and will not be able to play them no matter where that video is located.

You can set allowed IP addresses account-wide, or for individual videos.
